Radiology in the Emergency Department

Radiology plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and care of many patients in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Radiology Division of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook University provides imaging services for a Level 1 Trauma Center treating over 90,000 patients a year.

The Departments of Emergency Medicine and Radiology at Stony Brook University played an important role in the introduction of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) for ED evaluation of chest pain.  Using advanced CT imaging technologies to “photograph” the heart in motion, these studies provide Emergency Room doctors the ability to more quickly and accurately diagnose the causes of chest pain.
