| PURPOSE: To establish an institutional policy to enable the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Committee to monitor and ensure that all GME programs within the institution comply with the ACGME Institutional and Common Requirements regarding Institutional Agreements and Letters of Agreement with other sites. POLICY: Current institutional agreements must exist between the Sponsoring Institution and all of its major participating sites. Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) will retain responsibility for the quality of the GME experience and must retain authority over the residents' activities when resident education occurs at other sites. Assignments must be based on a clear educational rationale, must have clearly stated learning objectives and activities and should provide resources not otherwise available to the program. Letters of Agreement between Stony Brook and the participating sites must: - identify the faculty at the participating site who will assume educational and supervisory responsibility for the residents;
- specify the faculty responsibilities for teaching, supervision and formal evaluation of resident performance;
- specify the duration and content of the educational experience;
- state the policies and procedures that govern the residents' education during the assignment;
- outline the educational goals and objectives to be attained by the resident;
- be renewed every five years.
