Asim Khokhar, MD
GI Fellowship Program Director

Welcome to the Stony Brook Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship website. We offer a three year ACGME accredited fellowship training program, and have 3 positions / year, with a total of 9 positions.

Our fellows obtain well rounded training in all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and our goal is to help them become competent academicians, clinicians and researches in the field of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Helping us achieve this goal is the backing of one of the best universities in the nation, namely Stony Brook University, an excellent faculty, competent and supportive staff and outstanding clinical and research facilities.

The two clinical training sites, Stony Brook University Hospital, which is Suffolk County’s major tertiary referral center, and the Northport VA Medical Center, allow our trainees to experience a diverse patient population and a wide range of pathology.

Our curriculum and rotations are designed to give the fellows ample exposure to general gastroenterology and also to different subspecialties in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

We have a multitude of regularly scheduled conferences to help create a stimulating learning environment. We strongly encourage our fellows to engage in clinical research and they have excellent mentorship in the form of our faculty.

With excellent clinical training and research opportunities, our fellows are well-prepared to enter any practice environment once they graduate. Our graduates have been very successful in both private practice setting, as well as in academic positions.

I would like to thank you for your interest in our program and invite you to research our program and look forward to your application.
