The Neuro-Ophthalmology Service offers comprehensive consultations, medical and surgical services specializing in neurological disorders that affect the visual system and the ophthalmic complications of systemic disorders. This service has access to a complete spectrum of diagnostic testing services including fluorescein angiography, ultrasonography, visual fields and electrophysiology.

Some of the more common patient referrals include:
  • Diseases of the optic nerve (optic neuritis, ischemic optic neuropathy and papilledema, pseudotumor cerebri);
  • Ocular motor disorders (cranial nerve palsies, diplopia, nystagmus, myasthenia gravis)
  • Disorders of the eyelids including blepharospasm and ptosis
  • Vision loss due to systemic diseases such brain tumors, cancer, hematologic disorders, rheumatologic diseases, immunological disorders
  • Transient vision loss, sudden permanent blindness
  • Vision loss due to trauma
  • Unexplained vision loss
  • Migraine
  • Visual hallucinations
