Spine & Scoliosis Center

The Spine and Scoliosis Center of Stony Brook Orthopaedic Associates specializes in thetreatment of all spinal disorders. It is comprised of board certified, fellowship-trained Orthopaedic surgeons who surgically treat adult and pediatric spinal pathology. The focus of the practice is to rehabilitate patients with spinal disorders, while collaborating closely with physical therapists and interventional pain management professionals. The goal of treatment is the restoration of patients to an active lifestyle that enables them to return to work. Surgery is an option made available to patients with the appropriate pathology who have not had their condition improved with conservative management. In most cases, surgery is an elective, quality of life decision that a patient will make with the guidance of a surgeon whom they trust. Due to our affiliation with Stony Brook University Medical Center, the region’s only tertiary care center and Level 1 trauma center, access to leading edge technology is readily available for our patients.

At the Spine and Scoliosis Center, we treat common conditions, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis and degenerative arthritis of the spine. Our area of special expertise is the surgical management of spinal deformity: adult and pediatric scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis and flatback syndrome. A large portion of the surgical practice is revision surgery for pseudoarthrosis and failed prior procedures. We have successfully integrated newer technologies into our practice. These include fusionless scoliosis surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and motion preservation surgery, including lumbar and cervical disc replacement. Our adoption of bone morphogenic proteins has dramatically reduced the need for often painful bone graft harvesting.
