Clinical Faculty Recruitment: Dr. Maoxin Wu

September 2014

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Maoxin Wu has joined Stony Brook Medicine today as a new Clinical Professor in the Department of Pathology. Dr. Wu earned her medical degree from Shanxi Medical College and her Ph.D. in Pathology and MS in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. She subsequently completed her residency training in Pathology and was a Fellow in Cytopathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Wu joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in 2000 and rose to the rank of full Professor in 2011. While at Mt. Sinai, she served as the Director of the Division of Cytopathology and as Director of the Fine Needle aspiration (FNA) service. Dr. Wu is best known at the national level as an educator and authority in the field of ultrasound-guided FNA, through her clinical and research publications and through her involvement in the American Association of Cytopathology.

As the latest member to join the academic and research faculty of the Department of Pathology, Dr. Wu will join our team of surgical pathologists and will also serve as the Chief of Cytopathology and Director of Fine Needle Aspiration and Core Biopsy Services, effective today (September 2, 2014).  In addition, she will participate in training medical students, residents, and clinical fellows in general and in cytopathology and will engage in academic/scholarly activity to support the research missions of the Department of Pathology and the School of Medicine.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Wu to Stony Brook Medicine.
