Welcome from the Associate Training Director

Jenna Taglienti, MD
Associate Training Director

The ideal candidate for our program is highly motivated to learn and to lead, to accept and to offer constructive criticism in a challenging but collegial environment.

As a graduate of the program who joined the faculty of the department, I know first hand what the residency program is about.

Because we run the only Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) on Long Island, our residents see all kinds of patients from all walks of life. Life in CPEP is fast paced and changes every day. You will never be bored but you will learn to deal with anything you might see in a psychiatric practice after graduation.

Our residents spend their third year in the more deliberately paced outpatient department. They inherit a full caseload and are totally in charge (with support from the faculty, of course). This experience gives you a real feel of what it is like to run your own outpatient practice.

Two months working in consultation and liaison psychiatry provide residents with an opportunity to teach medical students and interact with residents in a variety of specialties. A rotation through the inpatient unit on 10 North teaches residents how to manage psychoses, with a focus on psychopharmacology and ECT. During rotations through the nearby Northport VA Medical Center residents have an opportunity to care for those who served our country in war while getting an in-depth education about PTSD and substance abuse.

We use an electronic health record and e-prescribing in all our psychiatric practices and we offer residents an opportunity to participate in quality improvement programs, community health initiatives and other health systems projects.

We encourage our residents to continue their training in our three fellowship programs: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. We also offer a four-year research track that provides for a full year of protected time for research and publication.

Throughout the program our residents enjoy the companionship and support of their classmates and the direction of a knowledgeable and supportive faculty who freely share their interests and expertise. I encourage you to join us.
