Two New Fellows in Psychosomatic Medicine

January 2016 – Brian Bronson, MD, Director of the department’s Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship Program, announced that Reena Baharani, MD and Ammar El Sara, MBChB will become Psychosomatic Medicine fellows in July.

Dr. Baharani, a fourth-year resident in Psychiatry at Stony Brook, is the current Chief Resident along with Walter Piddoubny, MD. Her clinical performance is particularly strong, and she continually strives to further her expertise in the interface of medicine and psychiatry.” Dr. Baharani completed her medical training at St. George’s University School of Medicine and her undergraduate training at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Dr, El Sara is currently a fourth-year resident in Psychiatry at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He received his medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt where he completed a clinical internship and served as a Clinical Research Assistant, investigating the interface between psychiatric and medical conditions. He was highly recommended by his mentor at Downstate, Nancy Forman, MD, who also mentored Dr. Bronson and Jeisson Fontecha, MD, a member of the department’s Consultation and Liaison Service.

The one-year fellowship program in Psychosomatic Medicine is currently in its inaugural year. Aleksandr Zverinskiy MD is the program’s current fellow. In announcing the new fellows, Dr. Bronson thanked Program Coordinator Angela Smith, MS and the program faculty at Stony Brook and the Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center for their contributions to the success of the program.
