The Division’s faculty is committed to the advancement scientific knowledge to improve patient care. Our faculty’s research interests include bariatrics, foregut pathology, advancing laparoscopic bariatric surgery techniques, and surgical outcomes.

We are also interested in new technologies and techniques within our metabolic weight loss program. We study the behavioral and psychological impact of obesity programs to improve clinical outcomes. We also study varied aspects of gastrointestinal disease metabolic changes related to obesity.

The investigations conducted by our faculty, residents, and fellows are performed at both the clinical and basic science/translational level and have culminated in a number of global presentations and publications. In addition, the faculty have participated in writing textbooks and portions of the textbooks in the fields of general and minimally invasive surgery, as well as bariatrics.

Our faculty’s publications demonstrate their high level of accomplishment as physician-scientists committed to advancing scientific knowledge to improve patient care. They also demonstrate our contribution to the best ideas in medicine that define Stony Brook Medicine.

The Division also provides patients with the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that offer them the only local access to newly developed treatment options.

For information about our current clinical trials, please visit our Clinical Trials page, or call our research coordinator Leah Smith-McAllister at 631-444-7230.
