Dr. Adrian Fischl, MD is no stranger to our department: he graduated from our residency program just one year ago. He spent the intervening year as a Fellow in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Before his Stony Brook Anesthesiology residency, he received his MD from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.

During his residency, Dr. Fischl had six Medically Challenging Cases presentations at ASA and PGA meetings. He presented one of these, "Removal of an Unstable IVC Thombus Refractory to Medical Treatment in a Patient with Heparin Resistance" to our department prior to the 2016 ASA meeting. He volunteered in the "Big Sib" program at Stony Brook University Hospital and was an instructor in Procedural Skills Classes.

In an interview for SleepTalker in 2007, Dr. Fischl revealed his love/hate relationship with Long Island: loves the gorgeous beaches, hates the traffic and cost of living. It looks like the beaches won out! Welcome back to Stony Brook, Dr. Fischl!

STARS: STaff Appreciation and Recognition

A grateful patient at the Center for Pain Management commented on her experience:

Dr. William Caldwell not only changed my life, he gave me my life back. When other physicians told me that there was no hope for me - that I would be in pain for the rest of my life, and would be on meds for the rest of my life - Dr. Caldwell told me that this was "simply untrue"... Through a series of interventions, he addressed each of my injuries and resolved my pain... The level of compassion he showed me throughout these interventions was superb. He is truly a role model for all physicians.

Kudos

James P. Dilger, PhD

I am pleased to welcome CA-1 Resident Dr. Ramanjot Kang to the Editorial Board of SleepTalker! Dr. Kang has his first byline this month where he introduces us to the new CA-1 and DA-1 Residents (himself included). He will be a Liaison between the Residents and the rest of the Editorial Board. And now that I see that "podcasts" are among his hobbies, I think we should discuss the possibility of a SleepTalker podcast for the future! What do you think Ramanjot?

I am grateful to Dr. Richard Tenure for his service on the SleepTalker Editorial Board for the past two years. He really came through with articles and photographs when I needed them. His new duties as a Chief Resident should keep him busy enough this year! Thank you, Richard!
