15. Dear all -
It is my pleasure to announce the request of applications for the third yearof the SBU Scholars in BioMedical Sciences program. PhD graduate students earlyin their training career (after their qualifying exams, in the second or thirdyear of their studies) will be selected to engage in clinical experiences andwork on a small, clinically-relevant research project. Each student and theirPhD advisor will be teamed up with a clinical mentor to design the project andset out the other experiences that the student will undertake in the School ofMedicine (for example, going on rounds, attending clinical seminars, andinteracting with patients). The mandatory component of the training will takeplace over the course of a year, but the interactions will hopefully continueto take place throughout the students' graduate studies. 5 such student/teamswill be selected. The URL for the program is: http://medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/sbms/homepage . The application process is described on the website along with a list ofpotential clinical mentors and their departmental affiliations and researchinterests (although if more physicians would like to be included, please let usknow).Applications are due by 5pm on June 12th.Please distribute to the faculty in your department/graduate programs. Please feel free to contact me, Dr. Vince Yang, or Odalis Hernandez if youhave any questions. Or please let students, who are interested in the program, talk to our current group of student trainees, as they are listed on the website.
Sincerely,
Stella Tsirka
