Hi. My name is Linda De Motta. I am here to help you, the students in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, with your learning and academic performance. I welcome this opportunity to share with you my many experiences in teaching and coaching students. I have been teaching for over 20 years, the last 17 of which I spent as a learning specialist and adjunct instructor at Hofstra University.
Each of us learns in a unique manner; we may share some common ground here and there, but the more we know about our own learning processes, the more control we can assert over our academic performance and goals. My goal has always been to help my students uncover for themselves the ways in which their minds work; such self-awareness can lead to increased learning and increased enjoyment of learning.
As medical students here at Renaissance School of Medicine, you are some of the brightest and most capable people of your generation. You have been successful in school, and you should feel confident that your success will continue. While the demands of medical school can be overwhelming, the effort to negotiate those demands can bring great rewards. I am here to help ensure that you do indeed enjoy continued success and reap the greatest reward possible from your efforts. Thus I do not see my role here as a troubleshooter alone; I see my role as an assistant and resource for all students universally.
