Rolando Valenzuela is the Fellowship Director for the Stony Brook Division of International Emergency Medicine. Born in London, England to Chilean parents, he grew up on the New Jersey coast, and completed undergraduate studies at New York University. He completed his residency at Rutgers University Hospital in Newark, NJ and received his medical degree from Tufts University. He then finished a fellowship of International Emergency Medicine at LA County + USC Medical Center, where he received a DTMH from the Gorgas School in Lima, Peru. He then spent 6 months as a Fulbright Scholar, and is currently working with Chilean emergency physicians on the development of a mature, regionalized system for trauma care in Santiago. He has since accepted a faculty appointment at Stony Brook University Hospital where he is the Director of the International Emergency Medicine Fellowship. He has worked and lectured in Ghana, Haiti, Chile, Peru, Cuba, Brasil, and Vietnam, and his areas of academic interest are in prehospital care, trauma systems development, trauma registry development, and disaster response. |
