Plastic Surgeon Dr. Tara L. Huston

Tara L. Huston, MD, has joined our faculty in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as assistant professor of surgery. Dr. Huston comes to Stony Brook from New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she recently completed a three-year fellowship training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Huston’s practice will encompass the broad range of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, with special attention to the face, breast, and body. This will include breast/facial reconstruction after cancer, breast reduction, breast lift, breast augmentation, facelift, eyelid surgery, nose surgery, treatment of facial fractures, reconstruction after burn injury, body contouring following massive weight loss, liposuction, and non-surgical cosmetic enhancement including autologous fat, toxins, and fillers.

Dr. Huston distinguished herself during her training by publishing more than 20 peer-reviewed articles, as well as eight book chapters. She has traveled extensively to present her work. Her research focus is on novel surgical treatments for breast cancer, including the cosmetically advantageous nipple-areolar sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.

Dr. Huston received numerous distinctions during her plastic surgery training from the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Weill Cornell Medical College Alumni Council, and the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

A cum laude graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Huston received her MD with “distinction in research” from Stony Brook in 2001, where she was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society. She did her residency in general surgery at the New York Presbyterian Hospital–Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Huston then completed her training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Cornell and Columbia campuses of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, with additional training at both Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery. Based on her outstanding performance, she was honored by serving as chief administrative resident during her final year of training.

Dr. Loh received his MD with honors from Texas A&M College of Medicine in 2002. During his undergraduate medical training, he spent a year at Stanford University doing research as the Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellow.
