welcome

The Nutrition Division within the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine, Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, offers a fully online Master of Science in Nutrition degree program (36 credits).

Applications for Spring 2024 admission into the MS in Nutrition are being accepted until December 1, 2023.

The Nutrition Division will no longer be accepting applications for the Advanced Certificate in Nutrition.

In addition to the general course sequence option, concentrations are available in

Advanced Nutrition Therapy & Critical Care
This concentration provides advanced training in nutrition therapy for acute/critical inpatient care. It is most appropriate for registered dietitians seeking to advance their knowledge in the evolving and often controversial area of critical care for both adult and pediatric populations. Note: Admission into this concentration requires submission of a DPD Verification statement.
Integrative Nutrition Therapy
The growing interest and evidence-base for integrative nutrition therapy warrants a concentration focused on this area. This concentration is appropriate for students interested in applying food and the judicious use of supplements to optimize health and prevent disease progression. Note: Admission into this concentration requires submission of a DPD Verification statement or a transcript showing the successful completion of a biochemistry course.

Core courses include Macronutrients and Metabolic Regulation, Advanced Nutrition in Clinical Practice I, Advanced Communication and Counseling, Research Methods in Nutrition, Statistics, and Applications of Nutrition Research Literature.

In order to practice as a Registered Dietitian, completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship program is required.  This graduate nutrition program does NOT satisfy ANY of the DPD requirements that would enable you to apply to a Dietetic Internship program or to sit for the RD exam. For more information on becoming a RD or nutritionist, please visit https://www.eatright.org/become-an-rdn-or-ndtr or take a look RDN fact sheet.
